Schools sweat on election funding promises as Victorian debt rises

Mark Alexander says the primary school where he sends his three children is in desperate need of funding from the Victorian government to build an assembly hall, but it hasn’t received a cent 18 months after Labor’s last-minute election promise.

Hampton Primary, in Melbourne’s south-east, is one of 29 schools that hasn’t received any funding for upgrades promised as part of an $850 million package by then-premier Daniel Andrews in October 2022, a month before he led Labor to a third straight election victory.
