Ray Evans, a co-founder of the HR Nicholls Society and so a major driver of industrial relations reform in Australia, as well as a noted climate sceptic, died on Tuesday night after a long battle with illness. He was 74.
A member of the ALP club at Melbourne University he resigned from the ALP in 1966 to run a successful campaign for Sam Benson, then MP for the seat of Batman who had been expelled from the Labor party for his support for the Vietnam war, but had decided to run as an independent.
