Pay rises of up to 20 per cent over the next three years for nurses and teachers in Queensland, including a “cost of living clause” to match inflation, has put pressure on the NSW government to grant bigger wage increases in that state.

While concerns have been raised about the effect of the pay rises on Queensland’s debt-laden budget, Education Minister Grace Grace said it was about making the Sunshine State the “employer-of-choice for teachers in Australia”.
