First home buyers will be able to choose between paying stamp duty or an annual land tax in NSW after the state’s MPs passed landmark legislation that could mark the first step in an effort to phase out stamp duty permanently.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet secured a critical win in parliament just five months out from the 2023 state election on Thursday, when the state’s upper house passed First Home Buyer Choice legislation.
