‘Omicron-like’ variant emerges in Queensland

A new variant of the omicron coronavirus strain has been discovered in Queensland, as NSW experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases and Victoria recorded its first confirmed case of the omicron variant.

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said there were two historic cases of the new strain in the state, including one she described as “omicron-like”.
