West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has vowed to continue to “stand up to Canberra” and resist a national approach to border issues as his Labor government prepares to claim a landslide election victory in the resources-rich state.

The WA election could see the Liberal Party emerge with just a few lower house seats and, under a worst-case scenario for its dwindling supporter base, fewer seats than the Nationals after a disastrous campaign under inexperienced leader Zak Kirkup.
