Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull tendered his resignation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives late Friday, formally bringing to an end his 14 year career as a federal member of Parliament. He is expected to leave the country on Sunday to spend six weeks with wife Lucy in New York.
Speaker Tony Smith released a statement saying he had received Mr Turnbull's resignation and was now "considering possible dates" for a byelection, which is widely tipped to be held on October 6.
