Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and other senior conservative women have slammed former Liberal president Alan Stockdale for saying female party members had become assertive and that their male counterparts needed protection.

Stockdale made the comments at a meeting of the NSW Liberal Women’s Council on Tuesday evening, to a shocked reception by participants, several people at the event told The Australian Financial Review.
