Gold Coast retiree Tony Alder, 65, who will lose $21,000 a year in tax refunds under Labor's "totally unfair" change to franking credits said he will be taking Chris Bowen's advice to vote Liberal.

Labor's relationship with self-funded retirees plumbed new depths on Wednesday when shadow treasurer Chris Bowen told those upset with the policy that they were free to take their vote elsewhere.
