The Sydney mayor and his deputy referred to NSW's corruption watchdog over a property deal where Chinese billionaire Huang Xiangmo stands to make $135 million, could be forced to stand aside as early as next week.

Jerome Laxale, the Labor mayor of Ryde in Sydney's north-west, and his independent deputy, Simon Zhou, are due to face an effective vote of no confidence next Tuesday where the numbers are looking difficult.
