Pell endured ‘modern-day crucifixion’, Abbott tells funeral
George Pell was made a scapegoat for the Catholic Church and should never have been convicted of historic child sexual abuse offences that were later overturned by the High Court, former prime minister Tony Abbott said in a provocative eulogy at the Catholic leader’s funeral.
