Thank you for reading the blog today. We’ll be back with more breaking news tomorrow. Here is the latest on the war.
- Israel said on Monday no ceasefire had been implemented in southern Gaza even though security sources in Egypt said a deal had been reached to allow foreigners out of the besieged Palestinian enclave and aid to be brought in.
- Australians and other foreigners could soon escape from Gaza and much needed medical supplies and food make its way in with the sole border crossing to Egypt expected to reopen following delicate diplomatic negotiations.
- The federal government has confirmed two additional flights from Tel Aviv to Dubai on Monday. The federal parliament condemned the Hamas attack on Israel as the “slaughter of innocents”.
- More than a million people have fled their homes in the besieged Gaza Strip in the past week, ahead of expected Israel invasion that seeks to eliminate Hamas’ leadership after its deadly attack. “We are on the verge of the abyss in the Middle East,” UN secretary general Antonio Guterres said.
- More than 1400 Israelis have died, the vast majority civilians killed in Hamas’ October 7 assault, and at least 155 others, including children, are held hostage in Gaza where 2670 Palestinians have been killed since the fighting erupted.
