High-profile West Australian independent candidate Kate Chaney says the tax system is overly reliant on taxing workers’ income and both major parties have failed to undertake major economic reforms and set a long-term vision for tackling challenges such as the ageing population and climate change.

Three weeks into her campaign for the blue-ribbon seat of Curtin, Ms Chaney backed calls by other independent candidates for a fresh, broad-based tax review by whoever wins the federal election, arguing against squabbling over isolated issues such as the company tax rate or the low and middle income tax offset.
