Energy consumers and demand response providers have had a major win over big power companies as a key energy market agency recommends new rules to spur demand response – a vital part of the grid of the future.

Demand response – or demand management – is a key tool for balancing demand and supply in the National Electricity Market along with energy storage as more wind and solar power come into the market and coal plants exit. But it is little used in Australia.
