Power cartel takes aim at AEMC wholesale 'demand response' plan

Big energy retailers oppose a new proposal by the Australian Energy Market Commission to allow third parties to aggregate "demand response" and bid it into the National Electricity Market.

The Australian Energy Council, representing generator-retailers such as AGL Energy, EnergyAustralia and Origin Energy, says there is no need for the rule and Snowy Hydro, which plans a $4 billion pumped hydro storage expansion that might compete with demand response, says it is a "complex solution" looking for a problem that doesn't exist".
