Sally Capp will stand down as Melbourne’s lord mayor after six years in the role, and her Labor-aligned deputy, Nicholas Reece, will take over.

The 56-year-old sheeted home her early departure to a realisation she didn’t have enough energy to complete another four years, but sources claimed it formed part of a succession deal cut long ago with Mr Reece.
