Worried about the world? Rudd argues the 1980s were scarier

Ambassador to the US Kevin Rudd says Australia’s mineral deposits and $4.3 billion superannuation industry give Canberra leverage in its dealings with America, as he attempted to soothe strategic anxieties being fuelled by President Donald Trump.

The former prime minister urged cool heads over the current tumult in international affairs, pointing out that the world in the 1980s had been pushed to the brink of nuclear conflict.
