There are many reasons for Australia’s inadequate housing supply, but a population jumping by 2.5 per cent a year obviously compounds the immediate problem.
The latest figures showing surging immigration of 550,000 last financial year also reveal why the Albanese government is scrambling to cut numbers as fast as it can.
Labor will cite the 14 per cent reduction in net overseas migration to 107,000 in the December quarter relative to the previous three months as evidence of its successful change of direction.
