Cascade Coal directors Richard Poole and John McGuigan knew they were involved in a lucrative mining venture with the family of former NSW Labor minister Eddie Obeid even though the Obeids’ stake was hidden in private companies, a corruption inquiry has heard.
Mr Poole, the founder of Sydney-based boutique investment bank Arthur Phillip, urged a lawyer, Sevag Chalabian, to hide the Obeids’ interest in the coal venture with Cascade Coal in 2010, Mr Chalabian told the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
