WA to backflip on controversial Aboriginal heritage laws

The West Australian government will scrap new Aboriginal cultural heritage laws that have been in force for just over a month after backlash led by the farming community and behind-closed-door lobbying by the resources industry.
It is understood the WA government will revert to the 1972 laws covering Aboriginal heritage that were in force when Rio Tinto destroyed rock shelters at Juukan Gorge in 2020.
