Federal and state health authorities have readied contingency plans for “vaccine rings” to quash new virus outbreaks, part of emergency protections ahead of Australia’s first injections next week.

The response to new virus clusters or a major outbreak in a capital city would be led by the state and federal chief health officers, with vaccine teams deployed by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee to quickly surround at-risk groups.
