US threatens G20 boycott if Russia shows up
The US is ratcheting up pressure for Russia to be expelled from the Group of 20 as punishment for its invasion of Ukraine, with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen threatening to boycott meetings if Moscow’s officials also attend.
While this year’s holder of the G20’s presidency, Indonesia, is keen to avoid ructions, a showdown looms in less than a fortnight, with a finance ministers’ and central bank governors’ meeting set down for April 20 in Washington DC.
