‘Very wealthy’ unis ‘disingenuous’ about foreign student fees
An independent analysis of the financial statements of Australian universities concluded they are far wealthier than they let on and are being “disingenuous” about what they do with the multimillion-dollar proceeds from overseas student tuition fees.
The research by policy analyst and economist John Howard challenges the argument – put regularly by the leading Group of Eight universities, in particular – that years of shrinking government funding has forced them to rely on foreign student fees to fund their research programs.
