Treasury spent $180,000 investigating ASIC deputy chairwoman

Treasury paid a top-tier law firm up to $180,000 to investigate Australian Securities and Investments Commission deputy chairwoman Karen Chester in 2021, after the regulator referred her behaviour to the government.

Findings of the investigation are tightly held by a small group, including Ms Chester, ASIC chairman Joe Longo and senior Treasury officials.
