Severe thunderstorms swept across NSW, Victoria and Canberra on Monday, bringing damaging winds, golf ball-sized hailstones and heavy rainfall to regions devastated by bushfires.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency received more than 1200 calls for help after a 15-minute storm in the early afternoon brought down large hailstones on the nation's capital.
