Of the many big numbers that will be revealed on Monday when Josh Frydenberg unveils the fifth Intergenerational Report (IGR), one of the more spectacular promises to be the forecast cost over the next 40 years of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The IGR, the brainchild of Peter Costello, is a five-yearly-or-so exercise that seeks to project four-decades hence things like population growth and the budget impact of such key areas as aged care and health with a view to keeping them sustainable.
