Tasmanian election is on after governor concedes no end to impasse

Tasmania will go to an election next month after the governor pulled the trigger on Wednesday to try to end a political impasse dogging the state and Liberal Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s government.

Governor Barbara Baker on Wednesday evening said she would dissolve parliament and issue a writ for an election to be held on July 19, sending Tasmanians back to the polls just 15 months after the last one.
