The fight over the World Heritage ­listing of Tasmania’s forests appears far from over after a Liberal backbencher asked for an investigation into alleged conflicts of interest in the process and the government hinted it could apply again to have boundaries changed.

On Monday, the United Nations , Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) rejected a federal government bid to unwind a 2013 expansion of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area’s boundary.
