The NSW government has suffered significant swings against it on a “Super Saturday” of four byelections, and lost a key seat, plunging it further into minority government in an early judgment of Premier Dominic Perrottet’s management of the pandemic.
The result in the seats could also have federal implications as Prime Minister Scott Morrison prepares to go to the polls himself in May, with concerns over how tarnished the Liberal brand may be. Several of the seats overlap with key marginal federal electorates.
