Aspiring international students said the sudden torpedoing of the Albanese government’s plan to cap new enrolments was chaotic, confusing and will cause even more damage to Australia’s reputation as a study destination.
Future students scrambled on Tuesday to work out what the reversal meant for their university applications or visas next year, and vice-chancellors said they would not engage in an enrolment “feeding frenzy” after the Coalition and Greens combined to block Labor’s caps.
