Respected energy and climate policy expert Kerry Schott is urging Greens and crossbenchers to pass Labor’s safeguard mechanism trading legislation, saying the goal is to “decarbonise, not deindustrialise” the economy.
In a speech on Tuesday at the National Press Club in Canberra, Dr Schott will say the use of carbon offsets will not be treated by business as a “magic pudding” to continue polluting and that a slated review of the scheme should be brought forward by a year.
