Convicted criminals released into the community after the High Court ruled indefinite detention was unconstitutional face rolling three-year stints in prison under new laws to be introduced into the parliament this week.

The Albanese government will move to legislate a new Community Safety Scheme modelled on the high-risk terrorism offenders regime, which will give courts extreme powers to imprison high-risk visa holders.
