More than a year ago, as the nation wrestled with the vestiges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the cash rate was still at a record low 0.1 per cent, Reserve Bank of Australia governor Philip Lowe took time out for a round of golf.

Teeing it up at his local club one Saturday morning, Lowe, according to this column’s spies, hit an errant drive that rebounded off a tree – or post – and the ball finished up behind the first tee.
