Remote working drives down federal office costs

Flexible work practices driven by remote working are bringing down office costs for the federal government, with almost a third of workplaces now having more staff than desks.

The uptake of desk sharing drove government office costs down by $25 million, or $759 per staff member, in the 2023 financial year, despite a 7 per cent increase in staffing, according to the latest occupancy report.
