This month marks 50 years since the formation of the Industries Assistance Commission, the key institutional forebear of the Productivity Commission – which itself recently turned 25.

Such longevity would be an achievement for any institution, let alone a government entity with the role of publicly advocating reforms in what are often contentious and complex areas of public policy.
