Billions wasted in poorly evaluated community programs: CEDA

A 5 per cent annual increase in funding for community programs over the past 10 years has done little to reduce poverty, with new research revealing the vast majority of federal and state schemes are not being properly evaluated to see if they are succeeding.

The research by the Committee for Economic Development of Australia comes ahead of expected funding in next month’s budget for a new office of evaluator-general – a pledge assistant minister Andrew Leigh made ahead of last year’s election – with an expected annual cost in 2019 of around $5 million.
