Pressure is growing on the Albanese government to regulate port fees, which transport companies say are making a potentially inflation-fuelling shipping crunch worse, as the competition watchdog flags it is analysing the issue.

Shipping industry leaders and the NSW Labor government have taken aim at sharply rising terminal access fees charged by Australian stevedores and called on the Commonwealth to better oversee how they are applied.
