Police killings spur $161m national register of firearms

More than 35 years after it was first proposed, the Albanese government will fund the creation of a national firearms register in next month’s budget.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus said $161.3 million would be spent over four years to boost community safety through a new national database, bringing together efforts already under way at the state and territory level.
