PMs, premiers, billionaires farewell ‘beloved Labor Party son’ Crean
Business and political heavyweights gathered at Melbourne’s St Paul’s Cathedral to farewell former Labor leader Simon Crean, who died last month aged 74.
Simon Crean’s mother never wanted him to enter politics. She worried it was too brutal.
But speaking at his funeral, his brother David said the pull was irrepressible, Simon having been immersed in politics from birth by his father, federal Labor MP Frank, who rose to deputy prime minster and treasurer in the Whitlam government.
