PM slaps down Greens on negative gearing demands
Anthony Albanese has shot down demands by the Greens that he pare back negative gearing and capital gains tax deductions in return for supporting a signature housing policy, saying the minor party was being juvenile and there will be no negotiation.
After holding the government to ransom for much of last year over the passage of its $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund, the Greens have demanded negative gearing and CGT changes in return for their support for the Help To Buy scheme in which the government will help first homebuyers by taking an equity stake of up to 40 per cent.
