PM backs spy chief’s refusal to name turncoat ex-MP

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has backed ASIO’s refusal to the name the former politician who was cultivated by foreign spies, declaring his confidence in director-general of security Mike Burgess.

Mr Burgess this week declassified details of a foreign spy ring, dubbed the A-team, that was conducting extensive espionage activities in Australia, including cultivating political figures, academics, businesspeople and public servants to sell secrets for thousands of dollars.
