Penalty for harassment: pinch pension
The Dyson Heydon case raises the question of whether judges guilty of misconduct should forfeit their generous lifetime income stream paid for by the public.
Anthony Wood and Jordan HardingeAn independent investigation commissioned by the High Court of Australia recently found that retired justice Dyson Heydon sexually harassed six female associates during his decade-long tenure on the bench. Chief Justice Susan Kiefel issued an apology to the six women, several of whom left the legal industry stating that sexual harassment was a significant factor in their decision.
The investigation’s findings have led to many women coming forward with their own stories of sexual harassment in the legal industry, which some are referring to as the legal profession’s #MeToo moment.
