Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke has left open the prospect of new Fair Work Ombudsman powers to protect whistleblowers and prosecute the CFMEU for retaliating against businesses that speak up.
Victorian firms strong-armed into signing enterprise bargaining agreements (EBAs) backed by the CFMEU said they reported the union to the Fair Work Ombudsman last year but were too afraid of reprisals to go on record.
