A new limit on international students’ work rights will crimp the supply of casual labour in hospitality, security, cleaning and construction but allay concerns about potential gaming of the visa system as a backdoor to work in Australia.

The decision to limit working hours for student visa holders to 24 hours a week from July will act as a deterrent to education agents who have been promoting Australia as an open door to jobs.
