New agriculture minister’s pledge to the $80b sector
Newly minted Agriculture Minister Murray Watt has outlined an ambitious plan for the booming $80 billion sector, pledging to ramp up productivity, move exports “up the value chain” and help farmers cash in on the shift to net zero.
Speaking to The Australian Financial Review following his cabinet appointment, the Queensland senator said he was also focused on “immediate priorities” such as surging energy prices, biosecurity threats and skills shortages.
