Sussan Ley’s speech to the National Press Club in Canberra on Wednesday was, as far as these things go, fine. The opposition leader said nice things about journalists; in return, those journalists said nice things about the speech.
Ley ticked all the boxes on what the Canberra press gallery cares about. She acknowledged the traditional owners of the land, said she was a “zealot” about getting more women into parliament and committed the Coalition to “reducing emissions so that we are playing our part in the global effort”.
