Victorian Labor’s Left faction is set take control of Bill Shorten’s electorate of Maribyrnong while the Right faction will pick up Brendan O’Connor’s seat of Gorton when the party’s national executive next meets.
While last-minute machinations are always a possibility, multiple sources told The Australian Financial Review the outcome would be resolved under the long-running stability pact between the state’s major factions.
