Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton zeroed in on the cost of living on the first day of the election campaign, with the prime minister accepting that voters were not better off after three years of Labor government but arguing that their plight would be worse had the Coalition been in power.
After Albanese called the election for May 3, he defined it as “a choice between Labor’s plan to keep building or Peter Dutton’s promise to cut”.
