Labor to shave income tax cuts, now or later

Every taxpayer, including high-income earners, would still receive some relief under plans to “shave” the stage three tax cuts being contemplated by the government, but the benefit would not be as large as currently legislated.

As Opposition Leader Peter Dutton pledged to hound Prime Minister Anthony Albanese every day until the next election if the government broke its key promise to implement the tax cuts in full, sources cautioned that while Mr Albanese was happy to let Treasurer Jim Chalmers float the prospect of change, nothing had been landed yet.
