The Albanese government will rush through legislation this week responding to the High Court decision that forced the release from immigration detention of 83 criminals, including murderers and child abusers.
The bill, which follows a concerted pressure campaign by the Opposition, would not result in the individuals being locked up again, but would subject them to strict controls and monitoring, a source said.
